Bitrefill offers the service with a payment limit of up to USD 10,000 in invoices.
Interested parties must register and comply with the company’s KYC policy.
Bitrefill users in the United States can use a new service called Bill Payments to pay credit card bills, utilities, healthcare, mortgage payments and even taxes with bitcoin.
The information was released with a message published on Bitrefill’s Twitter account, which indicates that with this system it is possible to pay up to 20,000 types of bills with cryptocurrencies.
For the moment, those interested in the service can register to be included in a waiting list, because they still have “scale restrictions”. They will gradually be allowed early access on mobile apps for iOS and Android.
Bill Payments is being launched in partnership with CBW Bank, a regulated financial services provider in the United States. As such, those accessing the service will have to verify their account by submitting ID and proof of residency.
As explained on Bitrefill’s website, to use Bill Payments users, after registering on the app, must search for their bill at the relevant institution, fill in the required fields, provide the bill ID or account number and enter the amount to be paid, and then choose the payment method.
The application offers the option to pay several bills at the same time, if they are added to the platform’s cart before cancelling. However, there is a maximum payment limit of up to USD 10,000.
Bitrefill will charge a 2% fee on the total bill paid through Bill Payment.
“This is the cost for paying and processing each invoice. The total amount of this fee will be clearly displayed both when adding an invoice to the cart and during the payment process”, the platform states.
They also clarify that, for the time being, these bill payments must be made separately from gift card and phone top-up payments.
