Presenting Masstronauts Series : Interview with Hei Long

Masstronaut at Massa

Hi , tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from, and what is your history?

Hello, I’m Hei Long, this is my name in Chinese. My real name is Halil. I am from Antalya/Turkey. I have a law degree in Turkey. I’m 30 years old. I am married and I have a child. I am currently working as a law advisor. I also work on blockchain technology and study chinese as a hobby. I have worked in many industries before to make a living when I was a student of course 😀

When you were a kid, what did you want to grow up and be ? What were your dreams and aspirations ?

Throughout my childhood, I wanted to be a very good football player when I grew up, I still get realy joyous when I go out to play football with my friends. Of course, as time passed , I stopped playing at a club because I had to study for school. Then I got older and passed my prime. I remember as a kid, while watching a match, I used to dream that I was in the field and what I would do if I were in that position. Before going to sleep, I would constantly play football in my head. I even stopped watching matches when I realized that one day I can’t be a football player anymore 😀 Also, when I was a kid, I wanted children not to die in any war and anywhere in the world, and not to be left without a mother or father. And I still very much want that.

How did you discover Massa Labs, and what got you interested?

I discovered Massa Labs at the TestnetRun telegram group in Turkey. Luckily the testnet hadn’t started yet when I discovered it. I was really impressed when I read the technical papers, and felt that I should be a part of it. Then I researched the whole lifes of the project owners (Damir, Adrien, Sebastien). They truly dedicated their lives to science and they are hardworking people and I have great respect for that. Since there were very few people at first, we frequently asked them questions and got answers quickly. They’re a little bit more occupied right now. 😀 They were a bit too honest, which made my decision in particular, to be involved in this Project clear. I love honest people.

What is your current role in Massa, and what challenges do you face?

Since I was very enthusiastic when testnets first started, I was helping people in the Turkey group to set up nodes. I guess they wanted to make me an admin because they realized my enthusiasm. I gladly accepted. That’s how my story began 😀 Currently, my role at Massa is to provide communication within the Turkish community, to provide resources to those who want to get information about the project, to do translation adn to help those who want to install nodes but do not know how to do it. I am also attend to the Chinese community. You can say that I’m a Masstronaut. I try to keep the balance between Family, Work and Massa. Sometimes it can be tiring to tell someone how to install a node for hours but but at the end, a sincere thank you and seeing them happy makes me forget everything 😀 As the Turkish community, we have a very sincere, beautiful and respectful community.

What do you like the most about Massa?

I love the teamspirit and the desire to succeed. Even though there are many kilometers between us, I love the feeling of a warm family like atmosphere. I like the honesty of the team. I like that the developed technology is within the spirit of blockchain. Besides all this, I like that it is not a purse-filling project funded by a privileged few with green capital.

How do you see the Massa ecosystem 5 years from now ? What is Massa`s most interesting part ?

5 years from now, I see the Massa ecosystem as an ecosystem well known and preferred by the whole world. As I mentioned above, this is not a purse-filling project funded by a privileged few with green capital. Surely it will get the position it deserves. The most interesting thing about Massa for me is the fact that people with great careers have been working on solving the trilemma problem for 5 years. I find that interesting it is something that can only happen with passion. 😀 No one wants to leave their entire career and throw themselves into an enigma where they can’t make any financial gain for cetain or can’t step up their careers while they are so successful in their job. Moreover, if they work 12-15 hours a day and leaves their old comfort, working day and night. This would perceived as insanity by most people. I think this is very interesting and noteworthy.

Setting Massa aside for a moment, what do you do in your free time? Do you have any hobbies?

I wish you had asked if I had any spare time :D. Very rarely I sacrifice my sleep and play LOL. Especially playing ARAM with friends can be a lot of fun. In general, I try to create free time for my child and wife, I spend time with them. As I said at the beginning, my hobbies are blockchain technology and learning Chinese. I’ve been learning Chinese for over 4 years and I wake up at 3 am to attend classes, I go to class from 4 to 6, then I go to work, I come home at 7 pm after a busy work schedule. I have dinner and playing games with my child then I go to sleep. Of course, in the meantime, if my friends in the Massa group have questions, I do not neglect to answer them. 😀 I can count Cooking as a hobby of mine but that’s the routine and necessity of life!

What are your goals in life?

My goal in life is to properly raise my child to be a good person. I really want to be useful to the people around me. I want to be able to speak Chinese fluently as if it is my native tongue. My financial situation is not bad. I don’t have much of a financial goal. What will a person do if he is very rich? After all, the same amount of food is enough to make someone feel full. Being recognized as a good person etc.

What is your favorite food, favorite movie, and favorite rock song?

My favorite food, of course, is a well made Turkish kebab, In addition, Chinese火锅(Hotpot), I aslo enjoy pizza, I like eating just cheese and watermelon. I think I just realy like to eat. My favorite movie is Forrest Gump, this line from that movie was realy good “I never went back to working for Lieutenant Dan though he did take care of my Bubba-Gump money. He got me invested in some kind of fruit company (Apple)” :D. And I have to admit I don’t realy like Rock. 😀

Anything you would like to say to the community?

We are a beautiful community. Everyone is helping people without any expectations. This is very crucial. Our goal is to make a quality, respectful and beautiful community sustainable. There is enough war, hatred and greed in the world. No need for more!
