The International Football Federation, FIFA, has selected the opportunity of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to present a collection of classic clips from across the history of the world football tournament, based on NFTs (non-fungible symbols).
FIFA+ Collect will be released later this month and will allow soccer fans around the world to own and share “moments in time” of the greatest goals, parades, celebrations and more from World Cup and Women’s World Cup history, FIFA said.
FIFA World Cup NFT clips will be connected to the Algorand blockchain as part of an agreement consolidated in May to become a blockchain partner and wallet provider for Qatar 2022.
“Fandom is changing and football fans around the world engage with the game in new and exciting ways,” Romy Gai, FIFA’s chief business officer, said in a statement. “This exciting announcement makes FIFA collectibles available to any football fan, democratizing the ability to own a part of the FIFA World Cup.”
